Sculpture for Transport Hubs
The setting
The brief
Airports, stations and metro forecourts are the most constrained sites we work on and the most rewarding, because a piece here is seen by more people in a week than a gallery piece sees in a decade. Three constraints dominate. Weight, because forecourts frequently sit over a station box or a basement and the permitted load is fixed before design starts — this is why fiberglass over an engineered steel mast appears so often in this sector. Access windows, because installation happens inside night closures measured in hours, with a rehearsed sequence and no margin for improvisation. And durability under crowd conditions: surfaces are touched constantly, cleaned aggressively, and occasionally impacted by baggage trolleys and maintenance vehicles. We design to be cleaned with whatever the facilities contractor actually uses, not with what the specification says. Fire performance, evacuation routes and CCTV sight lines all get checked with the operator early, because any one of them can move a piece three metres and change the whole design.

Installed work
Case studies
Completed transport hubs work, with the brief, engineering and installation record behind each one.
Our installation record is not published yet. Every project on it belongs to a client, and each one has to agree to be named before it appears here. Tell us the sector and setting you are working in and we will send comparable work directly.
In the meantime
- Pieces we would put in front of youThe selection above, chosen for this setting rather than by catalogue order.
- How a commission runs hereThe five stages, and what each one needs from you.
- All settingsThe other seven sectors, with their own constraints.
