We build in glass-reinforced polyester and hand-laid GRP with pigmented gelcoat, for work that has to be large, bright and light enough to lift by hand or hang from a structure. Moulds are taken from the approved model, so a series repeats exactly.

About fiberglass sculpture
Fiberglass is the answer to two problems metal and stone cannot solve: weight, and colour. A three-metre character piece in GRP can be carried by two people and fixed to a shopfront; the same form in bronze would need a crane and a foundation.
Colour is in the gelcoat rather than on it, so a scratch does not show a different material underneath. The full RAL range is available, and a matched sample is made before the piece is laid up. UV inhibitors are specified as standard for outdoor work — without them, reds and yellows fade first.
GRP is not a permanent outdoor material in the way bronze is. Expect ten to fifteen years outdoors before the surface wants attention, less in strong sun. Indoors it is effectively permanent. Where a piece is going outdoors for the long term we will say what it will look like in a decade before the order is placed.
