Stone Carving
Marble is carved by hand in our stone workshop, from blocks selected at the quarry for soundness, colour and vein direction. We use robotic roughing to remove waste efficiently, then every finished surface is worked by hand. No resin fill, no reconstituted stone.

In the workshop
What we do
Block selection is the first and most consequential decision. We inspect at the quarry for fissures, colour consistency and vein direction, orienting the grain along the axis of greatest stress so a horizontal form is not weakest across a neck or an outstretched limb. Roughing is done on a five-axis CNC bridge saw and router working from the production model, which removes eighty per cent of the waste and holds the finished surface a controlled 15 millimetres proud everywhere. From that point the work is entirely manual: pneumatic and hand chisels, rasps and abrasives, worked by carvers who have served a formal apprenticeship. Finishing runs honed, polished, brushed or deliberately aged, and the choice is technical rather than aesthetic — polished faces in continuous water contact etch unevenly, so anything running wet is honed. Multi-section work is dowelled in 316 stainless and bonded with a structural epoxy, with joints set below finished paving level where the design allows so nothing is visible above ground. Inscription is either cut by hand or sandblasted through a laser-cut resist to a controlled 0.8 millimetre depth, and the artwork is proofed at full size on the actual site before any stone is touched. Finished work is sealed only where the setting demands it; at ground level stone is left to breathe.
Stage by stage
How it runs
Typical durations for this stage. They are what we programme against, not best cases.
Block selection
Quarry inspection for soundness, colour and vein direction; grain oriented for the form.
Typical duration: 1–2 weeks
CNC roughing
Five-axis roughing from the production model to 15 mm proud of the finished surface.
Typical duration: 1–2 weeks
Hand carving
Pneumatic and hand tools by apprenticed carvers; the entire finished surface is worked by hand.
Typical duration: 6–12 weeks
Finishing and inscription
Honed, polished, brushed or aged; inscription cut or blasted against a signed full-size proof.
Typical duration: 2–4 weeks

Named machinery, the codes we work to, and the certifications behind them.
The plant list and workshop headcounts are not published yet. Ask us and we will send the current equipment register.
